Let Your Body Unwind Gentle, Lasting Relief for Pain and Tension

Myofascial Release (MFR) is a gentle, hands-on therapy that helps your body feel better by releasing tension in the fascia-your body’s connective tissue. When this tissue gets tight or stuck, it can cause pain, limit movement, and hold onto stress.

At Wellspring, we use the John F. Barnes approach, which applies light, sustained pressure to help your body naturally let go of those restrictions. Each session is calm, personalized, and focused on what your body needs most.

Stephen Porges, psychologist and developer of the Polyvagal Theory, who presented at the International Fascia Research Congress in August 2025, stated "practitioners of myofascial release are body psychotherapists".

Fascia, the connective tissue network in the body, can hold and express emotions, especially those associated with stress and trauma.  When we experience emotional stress, our fascia can tighten and restrict, potentially leading to physical symptoms like pain and discomfort.  This connection is thought to occur because fascial contains mechanoreceptors that communicate with the brain's insular cortex, which processes emotional information. The fascia (connective tissue) acts as a physical record of our emotional experiences and by addressing fascial restrictions, it is possible to release emotional blockages to promote healing.

Conditions It Can Help With

Myofascial Release is great for people dealing with chronic pain, tension, or tightness that just won’t go away. It can help with things like neck and back pain, headaches, jaw discomfort (TMJ), and even deep issues like sciatica, scoliosis, or fibromyalgia. It’s also useful for healing after surgery—especially when scar tissue is causing stiffness or pain. Whether your symptoms are physical or emotional, this gentle therapy supports your body’s natural ability to heal and move freely.
